School-Age Programs
Ellis Memorial’s School-Age Program provides year-round programming at our two locations, the Ellis Memorial Community Center and Ellis Memorial at Madison Park. Our two after-school programs are dedicated to providing quality academic and enrichment programming to the children we serve. Ellis after-school includes daily homework help so that students can practice their academic skills in a monitored environment. Ellis also offers a daily club curriculum so that students can explore many areas of enrichment including science, dance, cooking, sports & fitness, yoga, photography, and theater. Our network of partnerships with area universities and non-profits provides a broad range of opportunities for our students. Current partners include Big Sister, Strong Women Strong Girls, FitKids, ReadBoston, Wheelock College, Boston University, and Northeastern UNiversity.
The School Connections Program
The School Connections Program at Ellis Memorial commenced in 2007 in an effort to address the needs of the “whole child” by engaging Ellis staff, families, and classroom teachers to all focus upon the multiple needs of each child in our program. The Ellis Educational Coordinator works to create and maintain strong connections between Boston Public Schools, Ellis Memorial’s after-school, and families.
Our Connecting Schools Program provides our students with their best chance to succeed academically, socially and emotionally. After targeted students and their respective schools have been identified, the Educational Coordinator is responsible for reaching out to school administration, creating systems of communication with teachers, and establishing herself as a member of school support committees (i.e. Resources Teams or Student Support Teams).
School Vacations & Summer Programs
During school vacations and summer, our program runs full day (8am-6pm) and offers programming that is age-appropriate to the individual child. Students attend daily field trips that are both fun and educational, allowing them to explore the world around them. Vacation programming also includes literacy activities, tutoring, pen pals, sports clinics, and student performances.
Our Staff
Ellis staffs a full-time Educational Coordinator who is responsible for overseeing the academic programming in the After-school Program. The Educational Coordinator works with the schools where our students attend to ensure that we are offering a diverse curriculum that is consistent with classroom learning. She works with parents, teachers, and After School staff to ensure that each child can reach his or her academic potential.
