The Ellis Memorial School Age Program, with locations at the Ellis Memorial Children’s Center, Tent City Housing Development, and Madison Park Village, features curricula, and programming that are age appropriate to the individual child. The program encourages the development of socialization skills, provides recreational activities, tutoring, educational and fun field trips, music and movement, art activities, sports and fitness, mentoring, literacy, and youth development programs.
The Mellon Computer Center, at the Berkeley Street location, offers educational resources, computer and Internet access. The Bank of America Learning Center (formerly the Fleet Tutoring Center) at the Tent City location offers tutoring on all school subjects, computer and internet access, and one-on-one mentoring. The computer center at Madison Park Village is a Timothy Smith Technology site and offers educational resources, computer and internet access and training.
Ellis’ After School Program is involved in many exciting projects and programs throughout the school year and continued through the summer program. The purpose of the special programs is to enrich the lives of the children in as many ways as possible and to introduce them to the community in which they live. We are currently engaged in collaborative partnerships with Read Boston and America Reads (literacy) Big Brothers/Big Sisters, City Year and Patriots Girls Scouts (mentoring), The Community Music Center, Boston Children’s Theater, and Fit Kids (music, movement and dance) and the South End Neighborhood Health Center (health and nutrition).
The School Age Program also benefits from on-going volunteer involvement. We have formed partnerships with many corporations, schools, and neighbors. They volunteer in areas such as tutoring the children; assisting in the classroom; arts & crafts projects; chaperoning on field trips; and much more.
